Overview

Surgical Gastroenterology (SGE) also called Gastrointestinal surgery (GI Surgery) is a highly evolved and specialized area of surgery that deals with the management of surgical problems of the digestive system which includes organs like the Esophagus, Stomach, Liver, Pancreas, Gall bladder and Bile duct, Small intestine, Large intestine, Rectum, and Anal canal.

The three domains of Surgical Gastroenterology are Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB), Foregut or Upper GI Surgery, and Colorectal surgery. Endoscopy, Laparoscopic(“Minimal access surgery” or “Keyhole surgery”) & Robotic techniques expertise are incorporated into these domains, providing complete solutions for surgical problems, related to the gastrointestinal, liver, and pancreas. Specialty services in Liver transplantation and bariatric surgery are associated with abdominal surgery, further widening the horizons of Surgical Gastroenterology. The arrival of this Specialty has resulted in a better outcomes for patients with complex GI surgical problems.

The department consists of highly qualified and experienced staff members. It has dedicated operating room. The department is equipped with state-of-the art equipment to compliment the experienced staff to offer high-class service to our patients. Multi-disciplinary management is instituted keeping in mind the advances in therapeutic protocols. Regular quality and safety audits and clinical audits are conducted.

Our aim is to make the department a major referral centre for gastrointestinal and hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery attracting patients not only from proximate cities but also from nearby states. We are offering up-to-date facility for the comprehensive management of both benign and malignant Gastrointestinal & HPB disorders and providing comprehensive medical education and research. The planned expansion in terms of new services, programs along with liver transplantation, and infrastructure development have started after the appropriate licensing from the state government. Patients are treated at a highly subsidized rate. Quality and safety of high order are maintained in patient care.
